KTM Rebuild – “TheDukinator”

5th October

Well it’s been just a little more than a few weeks and we thought we give you an update on what we are calling “TheDukinator”. A zombie machine back from the dead. The body of the Adventure, with the heart and soul of the Duke 990.

After the first fire up (check out the last post) with the bikes new heart, we took a hard look at the rest of the damage we had been brushing off as “incidental”. I mean a bent subframe, bent rims, twisted forks and a list of other warped, flattened and busted bits are really just replaceable or fixable right?

A couple of phone calls later, the orders were in and it was just a matter of time before they arrived. 4 extra evenings later, the lift lowered and the … Read More »

KTM Rebuild: When an Opportunity Knocks

15th August

The trouble with opportunity is that it always comes disguised as hard work – or this case frightening news.

Whenever you hear about a friend going down on a bike, the first thing you think is “HOLY SHIT! - are they OK? ” If the answer is a relieving “yes“, the next thing you think is “…so how’s the bike?”  The last thing on your mind will be the opportunities that present themselves.

We had a scare like this last month. A good friend of ours, Kevin Miklossy from onewheeldrive.net was on his way up to Whistler, B.C., taking one of BC’s most scenic rides, Route 99 – the Sea to Sky Highway. For locals, the Sea to Sky has a reputation on to it’s own…prior to a four lane “Olympic motivated” upgrade, this visually stunning pass once held MSN’sRead More »

The Motomethod Story

1st February

So last year, just across the parking lot from our shop, we are sitting having lunch and out of nowhere these huge tall, custom made (out of atleast 3 frames) bicycles come around the corner being ridden by the Zenga brothers. They effortlessly jump down, and open the door to a space they have just rented across the parking lot from us… turns out they set up a workshop to make bicycle frames, and other random ‘arty’ things they are into. So, we went over to say ‘hey’ and have a little chin waggle… super nice guys and into motorcycle too. As the year went on, they came through the shop a few times for parts etc… and then one day approached us to pitch an idea they had of videoing us for sake of a Read More »

1930′s Nimbus

28th January

Today, we were fortunate enough to have a 1930′s Nimbus motorcycle come to our shop to get it running ! Sometimes i think, this is one of the reasons i turn wrenches…

The nimbus was only made between 1919-1960, and only 14, 215 were made.

They were made in Denmark, and the warehouse is still there…just in case you ever need any parts ! (we might..)

The 746cc inline 4 cylinder puts out 22 bhp, and has a top speed of 100 kph….well, i say 100, but really i mean 120 kmp, although apparently the #3 cylinder overheats and the engine then fails… ok, best to keep it at 100.

Its got a 3 speed tranny, with straight cut gears (and makes a whining sound), although they decided to use angular gears in the later models.

They were used primarily for the postal … Read More »
